Giving Back
Giving back is a quiet thread woven into Michell’s practice. A portion of every artwork supports elderly communities, honouring the generations who came before us and acknowledging those who may feel unseen or in need of companionship and care.
For Michell, this commitment is both personal and philosophical. Her work is rooted in emotion, intuition and the belief that art can hold space for grounding, comfort and presence. Extending this intention beyond the studio allows the compassion within her paintings to become a small but meaningful gesture in the world.
Her contributions have supported organisations in Hong Kong such as St. James’ Settlement, Helping Hand, The Hong Kong Society for the Aged, Gingko House and Banyan Services Association. Now based in the United Kingdom, she continues this purpose through ongoing support for Independent Age, an organisation dedicated to empowering and uplifting elderly individuals facing isolation, vulnerability or financial hardship.
This practice is not separate from her art but part of its emotional and ethical foundation. Each piece becomes more than an expression on paper. It becomes a gesture of connection, gratitude and care for the people who shaped the communities we live in.
Art that feels good and does good.
