Artist Statement

The foundation of my practice lies in the language of Chinese ink and the search for a visual space where movement, emotion and stillness meet. Bold sweeping strokes and fields of ultra fine ink dots allow me to explore the tensions and harmonies that shape human experience. Each work begins from intuition, letting gesture lead before intention refines it.

Ink moves with a force that feels instinctive, echoing the rhythm and unpredictability of life. In contrast, the dots offer a measured quietness. Placed with meditative precision, they create depth and dimension, forming surfaces that feel layered, atmospheric and quietly alive. This relationship between the bold and the delicate forms the core of my practice.

My work is about contrast where much of the work breathes. Power sits beside softness. Chaos meets structure. Stillness emerges from motion. These opposing elements are not in conflict but in conversation, revealing moments of balance and moments of imbalance, always shifting, always responding. Colour enters as another emotional presence. A burst of brightness may offer lift or tension. A restrained palette may create quietness. These choices are instinctive and intuitive, shaped by feeling rather than formula. Colour acts as an interruption or a resolution, guiding the emotional temperature of the work.

Wellness and emotional presence inform the way I approach the canvas. I am drawn to how art can steady, soothe or uplift, how it can hold space for reflection or for breath. Rather than impose meaning, I aim to create surfaces that invite contemplation, offering the viewer a moment to return to themselves.

Care underpins the entire practice. A portion of every sale supports elderly communities, honouring the generations who came before us and acknowledging those who may feel unseen. This commitment shapes not only the intention behind the work but the purpose of continuing to create. The paintings become explorations of clarity within complexity, softness within strength and the quiet shifts that define what it feels like to be human.
