WHO INSPIRE ME

Every artist has their own source of artistic inspiration. They come from different places, objects and artists. The masters below have inspired me in becoming a better artist and developing my unique artistic style.

Hsiao Chin Born in Shanghai in 1935, Hsiao Chin left for the Republic of China (present day Taiwan) in 1949. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the National Taiwan Normal University in 1955 under the teachings of Chu Teh-Chun as well as Li Chun-Sen, an important figure in the development of contemporary Chinese painting.	Zao Wou Ki Wou-Ki means ‘no limits’ in Chinese — a prescient name for an artist who experimented in oil on canvas, ink on paper, lithography, engraving and watercolour, and who embraced different cultural identities without ever being beholden to one.	Yu Ichi Inoue Yuichi Inoue, who goes simply by Yu-Ichi, is a Japanese calligraphy artist who passed away in 1985 at the age 69. His experimental “one character writings,” as well as his expressive, action-based style of painting, won him considerable acclaim both domestically and abroad, with some even referring to him as the Jackson Pollock of Japan.	Enzo Mari Enzo Mari (born 1932) is a noted Italian modernist artist and furniture designer. He draws inspiration from the idealism of the arts and crafts movement, and his political views as a communist.
Fang Zhaolin Fang Zhaolin (方召麐, 1914–2006) was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu province in east China in 1914 amid the turbulence that followed the collapse of Imperial China. Her father, a prominent industrialist, was assassinated when she was just eleven. Her mother believed in educating daughters—a view not prevalent at that time—and she had private tuition and attended several girls’ schools. Meanwhile she also studied Chinese painting with several masters including Qian Songyan (1899–1985).	Qin Feng Considered a leading ink painter, Qin Feng represents China’s avant-garde movement. Invited by the German government to curate an exhibition in Germany in order to promote cultural exchange between the two countries, Qin moved to Berlin in the ’90s where he began to fuse Western modernism and the Chinese ink tradition in abstract compositions. Feng uses traditional calligraphic materials but employs his brush with the unrestrained energy of the Abstract Expressionists.	Zao Wou Ki II	Pierre Soulages Pierre Soulages is French abstract painter, engraver, lithographer and designer. In 2014, François Hollande, French president, described him as ‘the world's greatest living artist.’ He is particularly known as ‘the painter of black’.
